Hey y’all! I’m back this week to do the review of the second book in the Ilyon chronicles series. If you missed the review of the first book, don’t worry you can find it here!
The book this week is The King Scrolls.
I am so excited because reviewing the second book means we are all the more closer to the release!!!! There are no major spoilers in this review, but the blurb does let you know where the last book left off so beware! So let’s get onto it!!
Here is the blurb from Goodreads:
Following the harrowing events that brought them to Landale Forest, Jace and Kyrin have settled comfortably into their new lives and the mission of protecting those under the emperor’s persecution. The fast approach of winter brings with it the anticipation of a quiet few months ahead. That is until the arrival of four mysterious, dragon-riding cretes who seek aid in a mission of great importance—not only to their own people, but to all followers of Elôm.
Hidden in the vast mining valley north of Valcré, a faithful crete has spent years sharing his knowledge with the destitute miners and their families and is known to possess what may be Arcacia’s last surviving copies of the King’s Scrolls—the Word of Elôm. Joining the cretes, those in Landale must find the crete teacher and bring him to safety, but it is a race against time. Should Daican’s men find him first, execution and the destruction of the Scrolls is certain.
When disaster strikes, all seems lost. Could Elôm have a plan even in the enemy’s triumph?
AHHHHHH CHILLS!!! I love this one SOOO MUCH!!! It’s so beautiful, tragic, fun, exciting, and AMAZING!! There are a few new characters who are introduced in this book! They are all just wonderful little book beans!!
The plot in this book is so CRAZY!! It is so intense and fantastical! There is so much that happens in this book, but it is all put together seamlessly!! IT IS ALSO EXTREMELY SAD *cries uncontrollably* BUT I WON’T TELL YOU WHY!! YOU WILL HAVE TO FEEL THE TORTURE FOR YOURSELF *laughs maniacally then continues crying.* Once again I got blown away by the character development! It is so beautiful how she creates these magnificent characters then puts them through SO MUCH and they just become even more amazing, wise, beautiful, and just ASDFGHJKLASDFGHJKL! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!! I know I say that a lot but you will understand if, WHEN
you read them my young padawans. So now to our new characters!!
TIMOTHY MY PRECIOUS!! This dude though is legit!!! He is just so fantastic because of how strong and wise he is in his faith, even at a youngish age. He is so kind, compassionate, and loving. He has a huge heart for the Lord and for others. HE’S JUST SO LOVABLE! Even though he seems all “holy” he still is very human and real. It is just so cool!! He is such an inspiring character!
So Aaron is Timothy’s brother and he is also pretty cool but I’ll have more to say about him in another review!
OH MY GOSH LIAM MY BABY!! Liam is so cool and just amazingly precious and sweet! He is Kyrin’s older brother and the second oldest Altair. This dude, bless him, is forced to be a soldier and is always under his brother and grandfather’s shadow and it’s so sad to watch! He is so sweet, caring, and sensitive but all that is pushed down as he is tortured in the army. He also struggles with forbidden thoughts of Elom and unanswered questions. But he is strong in his own way and it is so wonderful to watch him grow in this series.
YAAAAAASSSSSS MARCUS!! This dude is so awesome!!! He is the oldest Altair. He is a captain in the army under his grandfather. He is definitely cut out for leadership and fighting. He is so strong and amazing! He has a harder time putting his family over his duty to the crown. It is heartbreaking to watch. Then again, his character development is even sweeter because of his resistance! He is just like an amazing rock for his family.
Michael and Ronny:
These two are so precious and adorable!!!!!!! They are Kyrin’s youngest brothers. Michael is I think 13 in this book, and Ronny is 10 if I recall. They are so much fun and a great addition to the Altair family.
William and Lydia Altair:
These two are Kyrin’s parents and I just want to cry when I think about them, for multiple reason. They are so beautiful!! William had been a believer in Elom for a long time and did make several appearances in the first book. He is so amazing and strong in both his faith, and everything else. Somehow, even though his family is scattered across Ilyon, he keeps them in his heart and impacts their lives day to day! Lydia is interesting because she did not have the same beliefs as her husband, so she struggles more internally. However, it is absolutely remarkable how she grows in so many areas of her life through the series. She even tries reconnecting with Kyrin after many years of some bitterness that had dwelt between them. All in all the Altair parents are just awesome!
THEN AGAIN FIVE STARS TO THIS MARVELOUS BOOK!!!!
Honestly I can’t even think of any complaints or problems that I had in this book other than the previous mentioned, which then again is not major AT ALL!
Thanks so much for reading this post I hope it was enjoyable!! Some super exciting news coming up so don’t forget to come back each week!! Leave a comment to let me know what you think!! Have an amazing week!
